Structural shifts in the life insurance sector are receiving increasing attention from supervisors and policymakers around the globe. The growing use of asset-intensive reinsurance, private credit and other private market investments, alongside evolving ownership and business models, is creating new market dynamics within the sector.
GFIA believes that regulatory and supervisory approaches to these developments should be proportionate, evidence-based and reflect differences between jurisdictions and business models.
Through engagement with supervisors and policymakers, GFIA aims to support international knowledge-sharing and constructive dialogue on insurers’ role in providing retirement security and long-term investment in the economy, while recognising the importance of effective risk management, sound governance and policyholder protection.
